The Harvard Art Museums are a laboratory for the Harvard community but also a destination for casual visitors from around the world.
The problem was that almost no one knew that its 200,000 objects—comprising one of the largest museum collections in the world—were even there.
02 — Creative process
We worked with the design consultancy 2x4 to host a series of sessions with professors, students, major donors, and museum visitors, generating learnings and feedback.
An internal team synthesized this information and refined the design over four months. The technical build was completed by Digital Foundry. The site was launched in 2008.
The number of visitors increased exponentially and the collection was soon tightly integrated into Harvard's academic mission.
