I grew up in Pennsylvania on a organic farm founded by my parents in 1972. When I was 11 years old, my father's best friend, a neighbor who was also an organic farmer, was shot and killed.
My memoir explored the ripples of this murder and how it revealed the stakes of making a living in this precarious environment.
The manuscript was sold to Henry Holt in a six-figure deal and published in 2015.
That fall, it was selected by GQ and the New Yorker as a featured book of the month.
